Syracuse announced its full 17-game schedule on Thursday afternoon. Its 2019 slate includes matchups against the nations top-three teams in Inside Lacrosse’s preseason poll: No. 1 Boston College, No. 2 Maryland and No. 3 North Carolina.
The Orange begin their season on a seven-game homestand which begins on Feb. 8 against Connecticut. SU also began its season last year against the Huskies at home, winning 23-11. Four of its first seven are against ranked teams, including No. 1 Boston College in the Carrier Dome, a team it could not beat last season.
Its first away game will be in College Park, Maryland against the No. 2 Terrapins. SU will also have to face another preseason top-10 team in No. 7 Florida four days later in Gainesville, Florida. Between Feb. 24 and Mar. 13, the Orange will face five consecutive opponents currently ranked in the top-15.
SU will finish its season with three of its last four opponents in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Its last conference opponent of the season, No. 3 North Carolina, defeated the Orange twice last season, both by nine goals. The Orange will face 10 teams in the preseason Top 25, six of them at home and four away.
Syracuse was bounced out of the first round of the ACC tournament last season handily by UNC. The Orange followed up that performance with a double overtime defeat to Princeton in the NCAA Tournament, ending their season. SU went 9-10 last season including a 1-6 record in conference play.
The Orange are returning three of their four top point scorers last season including Emily Hawryschuk and Nicole Levy who both scored over 40 goals.
