Crittenden’s won the 110-meter hurdle gold for his second consecutive ACC championship.

The Syracuse men placed ninth while the women finished 11th at the 2017 ACC outdoor track and field championships. First-place finishes on Sunday by Justyn Knight and Freddie Crittenden paced the men.

Crittenden’s time of 13.62 seconds earned him gold in the 110-meter hurdles, his second consecutive ACC championship in the event. A few hours later, Knight took to the track for the 5000-meter run, his first race since setting the year’s world-record in the event nine days ago at the Payton Jordan Invitational. Knight won with a time of 13:52.38.

Paige Stoner led the way for the women, placing third in the 3000-meter steeplechase to earn Syracuse’s only podium finish. The sophomore’s time of 10:06.98 was almost five seconds ahead of the fourth-place finisher and just over 17 seconds ahead of teammate Sydney Leiher, whose seventh-place finish notched points for the Orange. Stoner finished within the top-10 the next day with a seventh-place finish in the 5000-meter run.

On Friday, Syracuse began its run as Philo Germano finished second in the men’s 10,000-meter with a time of 29:22.10. Fellow junior Colin Bennie was close behind, taking sixth in 29:32.25. Meanwhile, sisters Shannon and Mary Malone each finished in the top-10 for the women in the event. Shannon ran to a fourth-place finish, falling just .89 seconds off the podium while Mary’s time of 36:17.55 placed her 10th in the race.

The women’s 4×100 meter relay began the final event of the day, and the Orange’s time of 45.69 seconds placed the team in seventh place. Adam Palamar earned points for Syracuse in the 1500-meter with a fourth-place finish in 3:47.34. Palamar was the top runner not affiliated with Virginia Tech, as Hokies swept the podium.

Tia Thevenin’s sixth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles came just before Crittenden’s win in the men’s 110-meter hurdles event, in which Chevis Armstead finished seventh for the Orange. The last men’s sprinting event points were earned by Winston Lee, who finished fifth in the 100-meter dash, while Danielle Delgado’s fourth-place finish in the 400 meter hurdles marked the last sprinting points of the championships for the women.

The next meet for Syracuse will be at the University of Kentucky for the East preliminary round for the NCAA championships. The preliminaries will begin on May 25 and will determine which Orange runners compete for spots in the championships.
