Embrace your inner Kanye with these Yeezy-inspired looks

/ The Daily Orange

If there’s one thing Kanye West is undeniably good at, it’s causing a media firestorm. His music still falls prey to subjectivity, but whether he’s making bold statements on Twitter or being photographed alongside his just as firestorm-worthy spouse, one might argue that no one can put on a show as great as Yeezus himself.

Naturally, his display of Yeezy Season 3 at New York Fashion Week was no exception. The rapper-turned-designer’s third collection has proven to be the most show-stopping one yet — literally. It caused many smaller designers to reschedule their shows so as not to be swallowed up by West’s latest release.

Here’s how we common folk can channel some of Yeezy’s iconic, minimalistic designs:

If there’s one style that West clearly favors, it’s monochrome. This trend is taking the modern fashion world and street style by storm. Given that the Yeezy collections are perfect intersections of the two styles, it’s now quite easy to wear monochrome for even the most down-to-earth fashionistas. All-black can get boring, so try an equally versatile and casual color like army green. Pair a thermal top with a matching anorak or army-style jacket to capture Yeezy’s industrial aesthetic. For bottoms, pull on a pair of riding pants — these genuine ones can be purchased for $40-$60, but American Apparel makes a good pair as well. To finish, slip on a pair of thigh-high boots, preferably in a neutral shade, in order to prove that a bold pop of color doesn’t always have to be bright.

Thanks to Yeezy, you now have an excuse to pass off your duck boots as fashion. Wear your sperrys or bean boots with a matching pair of separates, like this nude skirt and mock neck, along with some maroon tights to match the collections color scheme. In order to add a refreshing, standout break from the plain, take your outfit up a notch and throw on a colorful and geometric-patterned cardi.

Once again, West gives us permission to rock an everyday staple: the hoodie. Wear yours — pullover or zip-up, preferably plain — underneath a bomber, along with some black jeans or gray joggers to achieve this comfortable, casual look. Then, add a pair of plain sneakers — these Nike Freeforms are pretty close to that Adidas Yeezy shape. The duck boots from the Pattern Play outfit will work as well. A cap makes the perfect finishing touch, this one from Brandy Melville embroidered with a “Bound 2” lyric will definitely help you get in the Kanye spirit.

To put a more unique, feminine twist on the look just described, swap the pants for a ribbed dress or skirt to add some dimension. Wear along with some neutral thigh-highs and combat boots for that street-style edge of which West is so fond.
