Redshirt freshman LB Washington announces transfer
James Washington, a redshirt freshman linebacker, will transfer from Syracuse. Washington is the second Orange defensive player to announce his departure from SU in the past week, joining defensive end Josh Manley.
Scout.com first reported Washington’s transfer.
Washington declined an interview on Thursday night and didn’t share any details on his transfer options. Scout.com reported that Washington is transferring to be closer to home.
Washington recorded 15 sacks as a junior at Winter Park (Fla.) High School, but hadn’t played in a game since joining Syracuse. He joined the Orange as a two-star recruit.
Washington is SU’s second transfer in three days.
Manley tweeted on Tuesday night that he would transfer to Charlotte. Manley had appeared in just one game and recorded no stats for Syracuse. Manley joined the Orange as a two-star recruit and will be eligible to play immediately for the 49ers since Charlotte is a Football Championship Subdivision school.
