William Duncombe, a public administration and international affairs professor at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs died May 11 in Oregon.

Duncombe was 57 years old, according to a May 17 Post Standard article.

Duncombe worked as a professor in Maxwell for more than 20 years, and received a PhD in public administration from the school in 1989. As a professor, he was the senior associate in Maxwell’s Center for Policy Research and associate director of its finance and accountability program, according to a May 17 SU news release.

He was recognized for his knowledge in public budgeting and financial management, as well as his teaching skills. SU presented Duncombe with the Excellence in Graduate Education Faculty Recognition Award and the Leslie A. Whittington Excellence in Teaching Award in 2006, according to the release.

Duncombe was internationally renowned for his research in finance. In 2009, Duncombe was presented with the Aaron Wildavsky Award for lifetime achievement in budgeting and financial management scholarship by the Association of Budgeting and Financial Management, according to the release.

He leaves behind his wife Julie and his two sons, Chris and David, according to the release.
