APPreciation: 30/30

Fun-sucker alert: Midterm week is approaching. Scary, but true.

If you have trouble balancing time between studying for finance and Facebook-stalking your ex, midterm week is your worst nightmare.

Luckily, geniuses in the wonderful world of smartphone applications designed a user-friendly time management app called 30/30, boasting that it’s “a simple task manager that helps you get stuff done!”

30/30 invites users to create a to-do list of jobs they need to finish, then simply set a time allotment for each separate task. After pressing play, the app’s timer ticks down the time allocated for each task until an alarm goes off, alerting the user that time is up.

The app is meant to give users built-in study breaks every hour. For example, set the timer for a half an hour to write your English paper, take a five-minute hiatus to break off a piece of that Kit Kat bar for that always-important snack time, then spend another half an hour working on the paper.

Continually named as one of the must-have apps by media outlets such as Gizmodo and The Washington Post, 30/30 has also been featured as Apple’s “Editor’s Choice” for the iPad. It has even been called “one of the 100 best apps ever made for iOS” by Tap! Magazine.

The free app is easy to navigate and helpfully color-codes each task, making it visually appealing and — shockingly — fun to use.

The best part: It encourages study breaks, so you don’t have to quit Facebook-stalking your ex cold turkey. But then again, maybe you should.
